Bush to Beach Walk - Saturday 5th September, 2009

Anne-Louise, Jacky and Jen participated in the annual Bush to Beach walk organised by bushland friends groups in Perth's western suburbs in colaboration with the Kings Park Wildflower Festival. The walk was led by tour guides to explain the many native flora in WA and really gave us an appreciation for the natural beauty of Perth's remnant bushlands.

Written by Jen: Our walk commenced at May Circle, May Drive Kings Park in slightly overcast and rainy weather and followed a sandy path to the lake at the Synergy Parkland picnic area. The weather certainly did not put a damper on the beauty of the native bushland and the variety of wildflowers to be seen. After stopping for home made muffins and a fresh hot cuppa it was onto Winthrop Avenue.
The day started to warm as we made our way along Winthrop Avenue to Rosalie Park. We strolled accross Rosalie Park past the sports pavilion to Onslow Rd, and then followed local streets to Lake Jualbup. From Lake Jualbup we followed Evans Street to the railway underpass at Shenton Park Train station, passed Shenton College on way to Shenton Bushland.
Wandered through Shenton Bushland admiring the many blackboys and bush orchids etc hiking through to Lemnos St and along to McGillivray Oval.
From McGillivray Oval we walked past the entrance to the new athletics stadium and looped back along Underwood Avenue into Perry Lakes.
We had the option of stopping for lunch at Perry Lakes and then continuing on another 5kms through Bold Park but decided 10km was enough for us and by 1pm ish we really had admired a lot of WA's native wildflowers and bushland.
Off we headed to Anne-Louise's car which she had very conviently parked at Perry Lakes, back to collect cars at Kings Park and call it a day by 2ish.
Some pictures to share the beauty would have been nice but Jen's camera said to change batteries when turned on-oops! So if anyone is feeling like they missed out on a really nice walk, you will have to join Jen next year for the wildflower festival.
Thanks to Jen for organising.
