Thirtyone bowlers and an additional 6 onlookers rolled up to enjoy a pleasant evening of lawn bowls and all you could eat pizza under lights at Bedford Bowling Club.
After drawing a number to be allocated into teams we then hit the greens.
This was to try and break up those who had paired up before the event but it did not work for some (even though they picked the numbers from the pack same as everyone else!!)
Each person was allocated two bowls which were suitably named.
Angels and Flying Fish were some of the best descriptive ones. Different techniques on getting the bowl from one end of the green to the other proved hilarious.
Using the bias did not always work as some bowls had a mind of their own and joined in the neighbouring games. Some people had a better grasp of the game than others.
The best dance routine could have been awarded to Aly when her bowl came close to the little white ball (the kitty) and all the green heard was “I did it, I did it.” Closest bowl to the kitty must have gone to Deb (see photo!)
Then it was time to enter the club house for a huge assortment pizza and garlic bread.
This was a hit as the cleaning up was kept to a minimum and then it was back to the greens to complete the games.
Scorecards had been handed out but not all were filled in. Next was a change in opposition and more bowls made their way into the gutters.
Full time was called and dessert was dished up. Icy poles and donuts provided a fitting end to the culinary delights of the evening.
The trophy for the Best Dressed was awarded to Brian who was suitably attired in white. (Photographic evidence is attached)
A wonderful time was had by all who attended including the children including one family of 3 generations!
How great to have a function where kids came along and joined in (though there was some VERY FRIENDLY family rivalry happening on the greens!!)
Welcome to knew members and second timers Julie, Tom, Neil, Leonie, Sharman, Joe and Brian.
There was enough funds left over to make a sizable donation to the Burmese Association (one of our group's charities). Caroline is holding onto funds and will donate the money on our behalf.
A big thank you to Mark for organising this event and we all look forward in anticipation to his next venture. Is it to be in Mar(k)ch his birthday month?
