Carilley Estate Winery - Sunday 30th May, 2010

A beautiful warm Autumn day saw a group of us head for one of our favourite parts of town, the Swan Valley, to try a winery we had yet to visit. Carilley Estate Winery is located just off Great Northern Highway in Herne Hill. The cellar door and restaurant are situated inside a rustic looking stone and timber building, which is surrounded by lawns, vines and a beautiful rose garden, and overlooks Susannah Brook.

As always, club members took to the wine tasting with great enthusiasm with the usual varying opinions on the wines sampled. Our lunch table was set amongst the beautiful rose garden. We were well looked after by the waitresses, including “Hot Lips Houlihan”, and the menu seemed to have something for everyone. The soup of the day proved popular, along with the herb crusted lamb rack. The general consensus was the food was delicious and the lunch time banter flowed as freely as the wine.

Having spent most of the afternoon relaxing and enjoying the surroundings, before we knew it, it was home time. But not for everyone. Several members made a detour to Windy Creek Winery to restock their cellars at home with several red wines. The afternoon finished with a bottle or two enjoyed in the garden area.

It was a wonderful day in the Swan Valley. The weather was perfect, the lunch delicious, the surroundings at both wineries were beautiful and as always, the company was interesting and funny.

Thank you to everyone who went along and helped make it a very enjoyable day.
A special thanks to Gail, Cheryl and Noelene who came to a club event for the first time. A couple of the ladies travelled from as far away as Safety Bay and Yanchep which was a great effort.
Thanks also to Brian for organising another wonderful lunch in the Valley.
